Black Opium EDP is a sweet oriental gourmand fragrance built around coffee, jasmine and vanilla, and Maids Scents carries the authentic Eau de Parfum with delivery across Nigeria and beyond.
What is Black Opium EDP?
Black Opium EDP launched in September 2014, created by a team of four perfumers, Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc, the same two noses whose work also shaped Black Opium Nuit Blanche EDP, which we already carry. Positioned under the tagline the night is ours, YSL built this release as a rock’n’roll reimagining of the legendary 1977 Opium, marketed as the first-ever floral coffee fragrance and aimed at a younger audience than the house’s classic scents.
Fragrance Profile
Black Opium EDP opens with pear, pink pepper and orange blossom, an energetic, lively burst more than one reviewer specifically describes as feeling like the first sip of an espresso shot, sharp, bright and immediately addictive.
As it develops, the heart brings in coffee, jasmine, bitter almond and licorice, richly warm and gourmand. More than one reviewer specifically calls this composition the scent that sparked their entire perfume obsession, half rocker chic, half coffee-mad teenager, though it’s genuinely worth being honest that a separate detailed reviewer finds the exact same combination nauseatingly sweet, describing it as a cheap, shrill sugar bomb with barely a trace of genuine coffee.
The base settles into vanilla, patchouli, cashmere wood and cedar, closing out a warm, creamy dry-down more than one reviewer describes as a vanilla latte enjoyed in a flower garden, inviting and bold at the same time.
Top Notes: Pear, Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom
Heart Notes: Coffee, Jasmine, Bitter Almond, Licorice
Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cashmere Wood, Cedar
Who Should Wear Black Opium?
Black Opium EDP suits anyone who wants a genuinely warm, sweet, coffee-forward signature rather than a light, fresh everyday scent. More than one reviewer specifically calls it edgy, modern and effortlessly intriguing, designed for the confident woman who wants to stand out.
Black Opium EDP has also earned its place as one of YSL’s most successful modern releases, with more than one reviewer specifically noting how well it performs on fabric and hair, lingering long after it’s applied. That commercial success has made it one of the best-selling women’s fragrances of the decade, spawning numerous flankers and limited editions since its original 2014 debut.
Performance and Longevity
Performance is generally good, with structured community data placing longevity around four to six hours, though it’s genuinely worth being honest that a smaller number of detailed reviewers report disappointing sillage and longevity for the price point.
Two to three sprays on pulse points is a sensible starting point given how consistently this fragrance’s performance is reported across most wearers.
Best Time to Wear Black Opium in Nigeria
Given its genuinely warm, sweet, coffee-vanilla character, this fragrance suits Nigeria’s cooler harmattan season particularly well for confident evening wear, where drier air lets the patchouli, cashmere wood and cedar base fully develop for a memorable night out.
